HIGH SCHOOL:
We will have a Varsity and Junior Varsity team again this year. Our in-person Info Meeting will be on Wed, April 16 from 8-9pm in the Greyhound (Old) Theater. If new to our high school program, we highly recommend attendance at this meeting.
Tryouts: Friday, May 9 from 6-9pm and Sat, May 10 from 9am-noon in Aux/Old Gym
All incoming freshmen must have a physical completed on/after April 1, 2025 uploaded into ParentVue and cleared by the Athletic Department in order to be eligible to participate in the tryout. We recommend parents complete the submission by May 2 to allow for processing time. Current student-athletes are covered by by their 2024-25 physical through the last day of school.
Only students who currently attend Dodgen or Hightower Trail Middle Schools are eligible to participate in the May tryout. Those students who will attend Pope in fall 2025 and do not attend one of those schools should contact Erica at popegreyhoundsvolleyball@gmail.com to discuss your tryout process and timeline.
JUNIORS (rising 6th-8th grade girls):
We will field four teams and a beginner's training group. Our in-person Info Meeting will be on Wed, April 16 from 7-8pm in the Greyhound Theater. To best understand our tryout and team/training group placement process, we recommend attendance at this meeting. Players who intend to attend Pope High School are welcome to participate in our Juniors program.
For the 2025 season, a player may choose the Team Track if she desires to be considered to make a team and will attend the tryouts, or a player may choose to join the beginner's Training Group where she will not go through the tryout process and will be part of the group that will focus on learning the skills of the game and playing within practices only.
Tryouts: Initial tryout is on Sunday, May 18 in the Aux/Old Gym. 6th graders will attend from 2:30-3:30pm, 7th graders from 3:45-4:45pm & 8th graders from 5-6pm. From here, the girls will be placed into two Summer Training groups. All who tryout are invited to attend three Summer Training open gyms. The Pope Summer Training Group will have the Final Tryout on Sat, Aug 2 for placement on the Navy or White teams. The Hounds Summer Training Group will have the final tryout on Wed, Aug 6 for placement on the Sky or Grey teams. Players who do not make a team will have the option to join the Training Group (if space remains) or to withdraw from our program and receive a refund less a registration fee.
PUPS (rising 4th & 5th graders):
Our Pups program is the most straightforward of them all. :-) Any rising 4th or 5th grade girl who would like to learn and practice the skills of volleyball and the beginning intricacies of how to play together as a team is welcome to register. No tryout. We limit this program to 20 girls. Practices are Mondays and Wednesdays at Pope High School from 6:30-8pm beginning Aug 11 and concluding Sept 10. We end the season with a game either with another elementary team or as an inter-squad scrimmage. While parents are welcome at the Info Meeting for the Juniors, most Pups' questions are easily answered on email. Feel free to email LA at popejuniorsvolleyball@gmail.com.
